Facebook prohibits ads that promote cryptocurrencies (including bitcoin) and other “financial products and services that are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional practices”.

According to the company’s blog, even legitimate businesses won’t be able to promote bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, ICOs or binary options (financial option in which the payoff is either some fixed monetary amount or nothing at all).

Additionally, ads that violate the company’s new policy will be banned on Facebook’s core app, but also in other places where Facebook sells ads, including Instagram and Audience Network.

“We want people to continue to discover and learn about new products and services through Facebook ads without fear of scams or deception. We also understand that we may not catch every ad that should be removed under this new policy, and encourage our community to report content that violates our Advertising Policies,” the statement reads.
